The truth of the matter is that fad diets don’t work, and for one very simple reason: They usually consist of processed foods and unusual habits that can complicate digestion- the key to optimal health, fitness, and weight.

Extreme weight loss plans usually focus on eliminating one of our primary food sources (carbohydrates, fats, or protein) until we’ve reached our weight loss goals. Once we go off the diet man of us put the weigh t right back on, leaving us feeling less energetic and completely demotivated. Eliminating entire food groups will not only put you in a mental funk, but will also deprive your body of essential nutrients, putting you at risk of disease.

Why they Don’t Work

The fact is, there is no “one size fits all” answer to lasting weight loss. What works for one individual may not be for you, since our bodies react differently to other foods, dependent on genetics and different health factors. To find the method of weight loss that’s good for you would probably take time and involve patience dedication, and some experiment with other foods, and diets.

While no one food is the magical bullet for weight loss, there are specific nutrients that will help you reach weight loss goals. Most of the foods include in weight loss diets have a couple things in common: They’re higher in fiber (which help make you feel fuller, longer) and have a low energy density – meaning that you can eat a decent sized portion without overdoing it on calories. Consider weight loss foods as part of the good general diet, and you may see its easier to reach your weight loss goals.


The most common thing in all fad diets is that they are incredibly limiting to food consumption and they anticipate fast and simple outcomes. The reason fad diets often break is a simple one: Temporary fixes. As soon as the you move back to your normal diet, the weight is quickly recovered. Not only are these diets easily broken, often times due to genetics or other health factors,  these diets do not work for everyone.
So next time someone tells you to try out the latest diet that’s working for everyone, and its the hot new thing! Take it with a grain of salt.
